Hydrate, smooth, and refresh the cheeks from within — with Skinvive by Juvederm. An HA microdroplet treatment for skin quality, not volume. FDA-approved 2023, conservative placement, subtle by design.

What is Skinvive

Hyaluronic acid, placed for quality.

Skinvive is an injectable hyaluronic acid (HA) by Juvederm, from Allergan Aesthetics — FDA-approved in 2023 specifically for improving cheek skin smoothness in adults over 21. It's built on the same HA chemistry as traditional Juvederm fillers, but it's placed differently and behaves differently in the skin.

Instead of a deep volumizing bolus, Skinvive is delivered in tiny microdroplets across the surface of the cheek. The HA holds water in the dermis, the skin's middle layer — the layer where hydration is actually structural. Over 1–2 weeks, the surface settles into a smoother, more hydrated, more reflective look. Most patients describe the result as looking "rested."

It's not a substitute for traditional filler. Filler restores volume to a contour; Skinvive improves skin quality without changing the underlying shape. The two are different tools and they layer cleanly together.

How it works at Reviv

Microdroplets, placed by hand.

At Reviv Med Spa in Millbrae, every Skinvive consultation starts with a face-to-face skin assessment — what the cheek surface actually looks like, what the goal is, and whether Skinvive is the right answer or whether a traditional filler or a resurfacing treatment would serve you better. First-time injectable patients in particular get Dr. Misle's direct review on whether Skinvive is the right starting point.

The product comes from a single family — but how we use it is everything:

Skinvive by Juvederm (Allergan Aesthetics)
FDA-approved 2023 for improving cheek skin smoothness. Stabilized hyaluronic acid with built-in lidocaine for comfort.
Microdroplet placement shallow, distributed
Many small injection points across the cheek, just under the skin surface — distributed, not concentrated.
1–2 vial start maintenance every 6 mo
Most plans use 1–2 vials at the start with a 6-month maintenance touch-up to keep the result stable.
Optional numbing topical or none
Topical numbing is offered. Many patients skip it because the lidocaine in the product itself softens the placement after the first few droplets.

The treatment runs 30–45 minutes. Tiny bumps appear at each injection site immediately after — they're part of the technique, not a complication, and they settle on their own in 4–24 hours. The first effects on skin quality start to show at 1–2 weeks; the result is stable around month 1 and lasts up to 6 months.

We schedule a check-in at 4–6 weeks so we can document the result with standardized photos and plan your maintenance cadence.

What it improves

Six outcomes, all about quality.

Skinvive doesn't change the shape of your face — it changes the surface quality. In your consultation we'll set realistic expectations for which of these outcomes will show up most for your skin.

Cheek hydration

Surface-deep hydration across the mid-face — what Skinvive is designed for.

Skin smoothness

A softer, more even look across the cheeks rather than a contour change.

Fine-line softening

Surface fine lines on the cheek soften as the dermis holds more water.

Surface radiance

A subtle glow patients describe as "rested" — the marker most people notice first.

Skin texture

A finer surface across the cheek — paired well with resurfacing or microneedling.

Pre-event prep

A subtle quality boost 2–3 weeks ahead of a wedding, photo session, or trip.

What it addresses

The look of rested skin.

Skin quality, not volume

Skinvive is the answer when you don't want fuller cheeks — you want better cheeks. The tissue stays where it is; the surface gets smoother and more hydrated.

The "rested" look

Most patients describe the result as looking like they slept well and drank water — not like they had work done. Subtle by design.

A bridge to filler — or instead of it

For patients in their late 20s and 30s who don't need volume yet but want their skin to look better, Skinvive often comes before any traditional filler enters the plan.

Pairs with everything

Skinvive layers cleanly with Botox, traditional filler, microneedling, and laser resurfacing. We'll plan the sequence at your consultation.

A predictable refresh

Lasts up to 6 months on average. A 1–2 vial start, with a 6-month touch-up if you want to keep the result stable.

Before you book

What to know, in four lines.

  1. 01

Skinvive is not a traditional filler. It uses the same underlying material (hyaluronic acid) but is placed shallow, in tiny droplets across the cheek — to improve skin quality, not to add volume.

  2. 02

Tiny bumps at each injection site are normal for the first 4–24 hours. They settle on their own. Plan around social events the same week if that matters.

  3. 03

Results start to show at 1–2 weeks and last up to 6 months. Most patients return for a top-up around month 6 to keep the result stable.

  4. 04

Pricing is per treatment and quoted in writing at consultation. We'll plan the placement (cheeks only, or cheeks + lower face) before any treatment begins.

What to expect

From day zero, to month six.

Day 0

Treatment day. Topical numbing is optional. Microdroplets are placed across the cheek — 30–45 minutes total. Tiny bumps appear at each injection point.

Days 1–2

Bumps gradually settle. Mild bruising at a few points is possible. No hard restrictions on activity; avoid pressing or massaging the area.

Weeks 1–2

Surface starts to look smoother and more hydrated. The "rested" quality most patients describe begins to register.

Months 3–6

Result is stable. Most patients schedule a 6-month top-up to maintain. Skin quality continues to read well in photos.

Pricing

What it actually costs.

Skinvive pricing at Reviv is per treatment, with most plans starting at 1–2 vials. Final cost depends on how much surface area we're treating and your maintenance cadence. We quote the full plan in writing at consultation, before any treatment begins.

Honest fit

Who it's for — and who it isn't.

A good fit if
  • Adults who want better skin quality on the cheeks without adding volume
  • Patients in their late 20s through 40s exploring injectable skincare before traditional filler
  • Patients who want a subtle pre-event refresh 2–3 weeks ahead of a wedding or photo session
  • Patients with mild surface fine lines and a flat, dry-looking cheek
Not for you if
  • Patients seeking volume restoration — that's a traditional-filler conversation
  • Patients with active skin infection or autoimmune skin disease flare in the treatment area
  • Patients with a known allergy to hyaluronic acid products
  • Pregnant or breastfeeding patients

I've tried four other med spas in the Bay Area. Reviv is the only one where I feel genuinely listened to. Worth the drive from the city.

Conservative, honest, and skilled. They told me I didn't need half of what I was considering — and the things they did do were perfect.

Common questions

Frequently asked.

Is Skinvive a filler?

Technically yes — it's a hyaluronic acid (HA) gel approved by the FDA in 2023 in the Juvederm family. But functionally it doesn't behave like a traditional filler. Traditional fillers add volume to a contour (cheek, jawline, lip). Skinvive is placed in tiny microdroplets just under the skin surface across the cheek to improve hydration, smoothness, and surface quality. It doesn't change shape — it changes quality.

How is it different from a traditional cheek filler?

Traditional cheek filler (Juvederm Voluma, Restylane Lyft, etc.) is placed deep, on the bone, to lift the midface. Skinvive is placed shallow, in many small droplets, across the cheek surface. Different depth, different goal, different look — additive rather than competing. Many patients use both: Voluma for structure, Skinvive for skin quality.

How long does Skinvive last?

Up to 6 months on average. Most patients return for a top-up around month 6 to keep the result stable. Some patients see meaningful effect at 9 months; others want to refresh sooner if they want to keep the surface change locked in.

Are the bumps normal?

Yes — small bumps at each injection site are normal for the first 4–24 hours and are expected. They settle on their own as the product integrates. Plan around any social event in the first day or so. Bruising at 1–3 points is possible, particularly if you're prone to bruising.

Does it hurt?

Most patients describe the injections as a series of small pinches — a 2–3 out of 10. Topical numbing cream is available if you prefer. The product itself contains lidocaine, which softens the discomfort once the first few microdroplets land.

Can I combine Skinvive with Botox?

Yes — they're very compatible. Botox softens muscle motion; Skinvive improves skin quality. Many patients do both at the same visit or 1–2 weeks apart. We'll plan the sequence at your consultation.

Can I combine Skinvive with traditional filler?

Yes. The deep volumizing fillers (Voluma, Restylane Lyft) and Skinvive solve different problems and layer cleanly. We typically place the deep filler first, then add Skinvive for the surface quality on a separate visit 2–4 weeks later.

How does it compare to a moisturizer or serum?

Topicals work on the very surface of the skin. Skinvive places HA in the dermis itself, where the skin actually holds water. The change is structural — it's why a single Skinvive treatment can read on photos for months while topicals reset every wash.

Is there downtime?

No restrictions on activity. Avoid pressing, massaging, or sleeping face-down on the treated area for 24 hours. Avoid heavy exercise and saunas for 24 hours. Bumps settle in 4–24 hours; mild bruising at a few points clears in 3–5 days.

How much does Skinvive cost?

Pricing is per treatment and depends on how many vials your placement plan calls for (most plans use 1–2 vials to start). We quote the full plan in writing at consultation, before any treatment begins. No surprise charges.
